SKY charging for a failed install of £60 and wont refund only credit account!

Is this right? I moved flat and havent had sky for the last few months but still paying my bill because im in a contract so essentially I am paying for no service.

I have asked for sky engineers special heights team to come on 2 occasions as the first one said its possible but as it needs to be a chimney post I either need loft access or a independant installer. About 2 weeks later I found loft access since the top floor flat is empty as landlord just refurbished it and so have roof access through window on roof and a flat roof under it.

I called Sky again who sent a different engineer out but he said he wasnt allowed into the loft due to insurance purposes and phoned SKY to cancel visit(and gave me a cheap dish and LNB for £20 as independant wanted £100 for them!)

I just recieved my new bill and they havent taken off the £60 charge, so I rang up and was told as its already gone through the system the invoice cannot be changed even though its not due to be taken until the 15th and all they would do is credit my account the £60 but as I am on the basic package it would take months to use the credit since I never use box office even when I had it working.

Are they just fobbing me off?

I would be happy for the £60 to be a credit on the account as long as you have enough months left to use it up.

Well after this months is paid then there is about a week left of the contract in June the guy just said to cancel the DD as the credit on the account will balance it out but I was worried if I did that my credit score would be affected.

If it's a direct debit you are not able to cancel. Direct Debits are controlled by the payee & can only be cancelled by them. When setting up DD's you sign an agreement allowing the payee to take regular payments each month from your account. It is the payee who has to cancel the dd & not you.

If you try to cancel & sky take payment when you have no funds, then you will either incur charges or go overdrawn if you have this facility.

Only standing order's can be set up & cancelled by the account holder. With standing orders you have the control of when to make payments & how much is to be taken, with direct debits it's the payee who has this control.

Either leave the £60 as credit as it isn't a huge amount or else wait untill you are going to cancel contract & if credit still remains then request a refund.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Thats not correct what you have stated about cancelling direct debits.

The OP CAN cancel the direct debit but he has to write to sky explaning that he has canclled the DD and why.

However there is nothing to stop them from re presenting the DD to his bank

I do have the funds as I have savings but £60 is more than I get a week to live on after paying rent and that could easily feed me for up to a month if not more

Yes, I agree with that, I think Cattie is thinking about the 'recurring payments' on credit and debit cards
