Equifax Creditwatch Swindle?

  • Hi

I forgot to cancel my free subscription, does anybody know if I am tied down to anything now? I phoned my bank and they said that there are no direct debits for equifax, but I'm getting panicky now.

Also, they emailed me and said there was a change to my credit file, turns out it was jst an address being added, so i logged in and clicked view, I have now been charged £69.99. At no point was i told "WARNING THIS WILL COST YOU £69.99". Has anybody else had similar issues ? or was I jst an idiot?

A friend of mine forgot to cancel his free trial and was charged £69.99. He did call up and advise that he forgot to cancel it and they did refund the money but he was extra nice to the lady on the phone!! :T

Ok, so call me Ms Paranoia but has anyone else had trouble getting through to Equifax on the phone to cancel their creditwatch membership?

I've tried twice at times when they really shouldn't be that busy (late morning but before lunch and just now at 3:30 on a Friday!) and have had to wait 10 minutes each time before giving up because I have much better things to do.

I get the same thing with Experian. I check my report and score every few months and I always cancel my membership just before the month is up. But I'm always on hold for about 10 minutes every time. I'm glad theirs is a free phone number!

I tried my hardest to find a way to cancel the free Equifax trial online, but I could only find a phone number, one of these (more) expensive numbers, and yes, they certainly weren't in a hurry to answer. However, before I had a chance to build up much of a bill I remembered saynoto0870.com. I needed to leave home quickly, I think that's what prompted me to remember. It's easy to become cynical when you then call an 0800 number and they pick up immediately, but of course it could well just have been luck.

AHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks esmerelda98, worked like a charm. And there was an immediate pick-up for me too -literally one or two rings!

    Hmmm, coincidence? Unlikely.

FYI the 0800 number is 0800 7839421 and using 0800 buster could get through on the mobile with no worries and no charge.

Does anyone know how to flag this up to get the number added to the main article?

I did stay on hold for about 15-20 before on the published number before giving up. Today I rang the freephone number (off my works mobile as T-Mobile probably charge me for it), after finding it on another thread. It was answered straight away, asked to cancel my credit watch gold, the bloke who answered sounded peeved off. He put me though, thought was gonna be the normal line but after the automated information was straight though. Cancel with no hassle or hard sell.
Just checked and it's showing in my account as cancelled. I asked for conformation email but said could not provide. That was the only worrying part.
