replacing a inspiron 6400 part

i am going to be looking to sell my inspiron 6400 however it has developed a power jack fault in which i need to replace. dell want to charge me £180 for the privledge of this however i can replace the part from eBay for less than £5 but dont know how to get the laptop open for this. can any one help?

If the power jack has detached from the mobo then it has to be removed and the new one resoldered. This is straightforward enough if you know how, but it means substantially dismantling the laptop . That is what most of the cost is for-it's the labour involved. Most independent laptop specialists will charge around £100 for this, Dell always charge a premium.
Frankly if you don't know how to take a laptop apart, then you won't be able to tackle this repair yourself. You'd do better letting an independent do it, or just selling it to them as is.They can fix it up or use the parts.No free lunch, and no free laptop
