Insurance for under 25?

I have recently been purchased a Freelander TD4 SE in which to learn to drive. I've managed to get 'learner' insurance from a company which equates to around £850 a year and will do me fine for the time being. As the car is group 11, with a 2 litre TD engine and I am only 23 however, I'm really struggling to find a realistic quote for insurance once I've passed my test, the best so far has been £3500 a year- about half the value of the car! Any advice would be greatly appreciated guys!

You tried confused,gocompare.comparethemarket ?0

You've already bought the Freelander so I'd concentrate on learning to drive, some people take longer than others and wait and see what the quotes are like then.
You will have driving experience although as a learner but more importantly you will be older and hopefully no accidents.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4 .............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Yes I have, most insurers won't give a quote online, or even insure it all- both confused and gocompare gave no real hope. The £3,500 quote was from Tesco I believe, other quotes have been as high as £4,800.0

Buy a more sensible car then0 -
Take the pass plus test once you have passed as this helps to reduce your insurance and maybe look into joining a freelander owners club or something like, as they sometimes have discounts available to members on insurance etc.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0

hell yes. Do you NEED a freelander? My new junior has a little corsa 1 litre at 18...he then put a downpayment down on a new Fiat Punto Grande, for £6700. I asked why, since his Corsa is a 2005 model and quite nice..."it's a bit girly, and cries at 70. My mates have better.".
I said "Have to tried insurance quotes first?"
"no..why?"
"Try it."
Quotes from 3k to more than the car cost! 1 years no-claims on his parents policy. He was floored, cancelled his order, kept the corsa. He said he's envious of me as I have a 1.6."a car with some poke". I did point out that a) I'm 32, b) I've been driving since 17, c) I have full no-claims, d) I'd LOVE a 1 litre, but I need auto, I need cheap, and that puts me into the 1.4/1.6 league, and e) Poke is nothing, I rarely do even 70, and once I've got sprog in the back, I'll be driving like a saint.
I also pointed out that if his mates have big engines etc, at his age...they have no sense, and will probably end up wrapped round trees on the next "cruise". I said "stick to small engines and simple cars to build up the experience and no-claims..until you're 21, it's going to be expensive." He called me a rude name as this Astra has only cost me about £330 fully comp. Heh.
He's a good lad, but honestly..sense? Sometimes he lacks a bit..:)0 -
Yawn, why do people think the cost of insurance has to reflect the value of the car?! You can either afford the insurance or you can't. If you can't afford the insurance for a group 11 freelander then there's an easy way to reduce the cost of insurance involving having another car.0

Can you let me know the Insurance Company you used to get £850 quote while you are learning?
Have been trying to get o/h daughter (18) insured on her KA (Group 2) while she is learning and cheapest we can find is £1450!!!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

Try the above, they only offer cover while she is learning though.
They are registered in Gibralter...
Avoid Quinn if she has a provisional licence as when she passes her test they will ask for a load more money0 -

Perhaps try Direct Line - they are not on any of the comparison sites. Although, if your quote is £3500, getting to £2500 is going to be close to impossible. If that's too much, get rid and get a different car.0
