Charity Bike Ride - Any Advice?

Options
Hi there, myself and a couple of friends from university are planning a bike ride during Easter 2010 from Newcastle down to the South Coast. We're expecting it could take around a week possibly allowing a rest day in the middle somewhere. The intention is to raise a nice sum of money for a couple of charities.

I was wondering if anyone knows the likely hood of any companies sponsoring us in the form of equipment etc, we are planning on camping so we have the added difficulty of carrying all our kit etc, and so need things like a tent and rucksacs... aswell as clothing, bottles and other little bits, that in total could add up to quite a lot. The idea is still in its very early stages but just trying to get into things.

Any other advice anyone has to give on this topic would be very gratefully received

Warren

I think you should be working through the charities you aim to benefit. they will have a message they want to give out and probably some literature. They will be able to give you their contacts and probably be able to verify what you are doing. After all if some random students went into the local Millets and asked for free tents, do you think they would be listened to?

Not that sure on where you can get funded (or if you have – I’d be interested to hear from you if so as some friends and I are looking at staging a similar event for charity ourselves) for gear but I can recommend anything merino wool based for a base layer – and any kind of goretex wear as a shell layer. I’ve got an cosmo plus camo gore jacket and use it on and off road.
