………Firstly this device generates literally about 25000V. If faulty, or faulty circuitry then can co up to 50000v. Even when the set is off the capacitors and the tube still may store a charge of many 1000's of volts. If you do not know what you are doing and are inept with electricity and realize that the spark could easily jump half an inch, then I would keep well away! However the amperage is probably not enough to kill you……….

I should have been clearer - I meant vac from the outside, not go inside. And I did say with the hose as the hose is plastic.
And I forgot to say unplugged :(
    Sorry.

But remember it's the volts that jolts but it's the mils that kills

hmm, I went through a phase a few years ago of accidentally electrocuting myself on quite a regular basis! Its a very odd feeling and quite unnerving, so will take everyone's advice on how to hoover and prod the telly without frying myself.

Oddly enough, I used to get a bit of an adrenaline buzz afterwards though - does that make me very strange?

Thanks for the funnies too, made me smile!

p.s. tried filddling with the contrast - it does not seem to be that, although I have noticed that phenomenon in the past Rik, so thought you may well be right!

Does it do the sound when something particular is on the screen? Or is it seemingly random?

... it often starts when the scene changes - like when it goes from one shot to another... havent worked out what the trigger is yet though. I don't watch TV much, but I will switch it on in a bit and try and work out what sets it off!
