Can I download games onto mp4 player??

Hi. Bought my son an mp4 player for his birthday. It has 1 game on it. Can I download other games onto it can anybody tell me? If that's not possible can I download games onto a micro SD card to go into the mp4? I'm not technologically minded 
so would be grateful for any help.
