Personally speaking ~ by the fact Logitech get most people to install their 'messenger' software with all their webcams by default these days I wouldnt touch 'any' them with a bargepole

I have a logitech camera...2500? I haven't installed any of the software that came with it..and it seems to work ok...picture looks pretty good, but it is very, very, rare that I use it :)

the cam sits over the top of my LCD screen.

General rule for me is any hardware I get gets installed, the disks stay in the boxes...very rarely are they required!

Thankyou both once again for so much help.
It would never occur to me not to use discs - techgrapplenerds like me would not imagine things would work unless....
Camera's ok atm - saw self enjoying cup of chai tea.
Really feel in quandary - retain&persist?/return&exchange? - feel childish in asking what you would do? but wish to anyway.....
If the probs of webcamming are likely to be ever present/variable simply because of too many areas over which no control can be exerted/finetuned, I feel the Devil Known is the better option, but the inconvenience of being unable to secure the QuickCamSphere anywhere is not helpful.

As it stands[which seems vaguely punnish in itself], the camera cannot be centred w/o blocking screen which I wish to see!
Camera can trackme or not, have tried both, but the point is that if I look directly at it, I am not looking directly at my screen and seeing other party as wished.
atm conversations have me on quarter profile angle when speaking.

are you sure there's no way to hang it over the screen?

More humble 'merci's' DE - yes, it wouldn't be a Brand exchange. All my careful weeks of research mean that Logitech is the only one I'd consider. It's an either/or with the proform9000.

The stem can be removed, but here is all:
    http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/devices/3480&cl=roeu,en

There surely ought to be a simple hanging sth to use from the globe base - but t'aint so, that I can work out or read of.Yet PCW peep said it was[needless to say]'no problem'.
