I got a JVC hd camcord and then found out the files are very hard to convert to a format (mpeg1, mpeg2, avi etc) to work on to edit. So I got a mini-disc camcord, and now no probs.0

Watching this thread as Im after a HD Camcorder for the new ones arrival.
My dad recently bought a sony, but Im unsure which model. Look very simular to the HDR-SR10E though. A nice camcorder.0 -
You should decide the format - hard disk, flash memory card, DVD, HDV tape or Blu-ray. If you are interested in getting HD hard drive camcorders, then probably the Canon HG10, or Sony SR7 are the best ones. And Sony HDR-SR10E, It takes 4.0 mega pixel pictures and has a Super steady shot feature to make the picture stable. It films in full 1920 x 1080 High Definition and can record up to 15 hours of footage on to its 40 GB hard drive. All in all, for the price, it is a steal and worth it.0

For editing, what would you be planning to use? I'd seriously look at putting some extra aside and getting a copy of Adobe Premier Elements. It really is so much better than Windows Movie Maker, which I really wouldn't trust to render any HD video. You can get a Photoshop/Premier bundle at quite a saving as well.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

As mentioned budget and storage play a big part.
As for editing I would recommend TMPGEnc Authoring works, it has a cleaver feature where it makes a downscaled version of the file for you to edit/curt/filter easily but uses the full HD version for the actual encode.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017
