Don't know if anyone can help but i thought my old Hyundai would qualify but it appears it was registered a day late. I've got 01/09/99 on my logbook, grrrrr.. Is there anyway around this or are there any manufacturers offering deals for cars that will be 10yrs old in Sept? Any help would be most appreciated.

Check out Direct.gov who have a new detailed section with a decent question and answers section

There was something on the news the other day, one of those mini reports, that said that you can get better deals online than trying to pursue the scrap £2k deal anyway.0

Now I am sure I saw one manufacture was offering to do it on 8 years or older, cant find it now.....0

I think it was vauxhall and they have changed it a bit.

I don't know about that but I have found I can get an identical vehicle not as part of scrappage deal for about £1,000 cheaper.
It turns out it was heavily discounted by manufacturer and in stock, whereas scrappage deal has gone up a £1,000 in a few days with similar vehicle not available for about 6 or more weeks whereas the in stock vehicle will be ready in a few days.
Buyer Beware is certainly true, it seems as if the massive promotion has produced a lot of buyers (like me) in a hurry and turned market into a sellers paradise, as I predict car sales figures will show next month.
I now have a 16 year old Renault Espace with two months MOT to get shot off, it overheats after about 3 miles of driving so is a genuine vehicle ready for scrapping, any takers?Andrew S Hatton0 -
My understanding is that the car scrappage system will be in force until March 2010. So in Sept your car will be 10 years old and have Sept to March to find a deal which will probably be better by then as well.
The reason why it expires in March 2010 is that they say you need to prove you have owned the car for 12 months. So anyone thinking they can make a few quid by buying an old car can't as if bought in May the car would only have been owned by them for 10 months in March 2010.0 -
No the scrappage qualifiing date is absoute, set at cars registered on or before 31/07/1999 ie T reg or older the OP's car was registered on the 1st day of V. Also the scheme may close before March 2010 if the 300,000 allocation is used up before March.0
