A Timely Caution

I went to Tenerife, with my grandchildren. We stayed in a nice hotel in Puerto del Carmen. The shops were great, to look at, we visited one of the many electrical retailers. My Grandaughters bought MP3 players and I noticed a camcorder which I thought would be good for my son's Christmas. The shopkeeper said it was 285 but there was a better one for 350 he then said a memory card and back up battery were worth having the total came to 560. That's fine I said and handed over my credit card.
He asked me to enter my pin and gave me a slip from the pin machine which said a total of 560. I did not get a receipt and looked at the slip and thought I will never be in Tenerife again so I threw it away. A month later back in the UK I got my credit card statement and - here is the caution- The shop had charged in pounds not euros. My camcorder became expensive as the rate at the time was better. I asked the credit card company and they said a lot of overseas tills are designed for both currencies as some people prefer to pay in Sterling. I think it just a con trickas the currency was never mentioned. Take care and always ask for a receipt!

Always ask to pay in euros as it costs to convert it into sterling, especially at the speedbank machine always say no, cause they ask do you want to be charged in £s no you want euros. Sorry to be predantic but Puerto Del Carmen is in Lanzarote.
