Thanks ShelfStacker I will certainly pursue that as it is a real breach in Data Protection.:T

the next step should they not, in their minds, being the information commissioner, who will put horseshoes on and dance on their fingers for the fun of it.

Or more likely tell them that they made a mistake and dont do it again. It isnt enough to be considered a major failing.

I would point out that sending someone's statements to the wrong address is a breach of the Data Protection Act, and thus illegal - actually, criminal IIRC.

No, as indicated in post #3 it was 'a human error'. Even the Information Commissioner accepts those will be made. So, unless there's evidence of systemic failings ...... it's just a tap on the wrist at most.

Was it you that posted a link to recommend compensation amounts of things such as telephone calls etc.etc.? I can't find it anywhere.

No more than £400 - this is the rough cost to go to FOS formally, and we'll generally let it go to them rather than settle if you claim above that amount.

I can't say too much, but having worked for complaints in Barclays (RBCR Middlesborough and Head Office complaints, woo yay), I can tell you that £250 would not be unreasonable.

There was a serious breach of Data Protection when HSBC made a mistake in sending my loan paperwork to a woman living in Wales. I received her paperwork by error and her receiving mine...HSBC has apologised and gave me £50 which i did not ask for and consider the matter closed as I was satisfied with the apology. It is one of those things that does happen from time to time. At least the woman kindly returned my paperwork and vice versa.

I do detest the compensation culture we are living now, it does make me boil with anger when people get on the compensation bandwagon to make quick bucks!!

Thanks barclaysmanager for your interesting post.

I'm not surprised if you're looking for it under my name. I don't do compensation.

... not even for cheeky students;)

I had a similar case as a branch manager.

It was caused by poor systems. Nothing malicious intended.

I went down the grovelling apology route with no offer of cash for a customer who had basically had her bank account details revealed to her ex.

She wasn't impressed and complained to my head office who offered her £200 (which she accepted).

I was genuinely miffed as I thought that they should have backed me up (not to mention that was just about my ex-gratia budget for a quarter).

The response I got was that £200 was roughly in line with what the Ombudsman would order the bank to pay, so better to agree it now.

In other words, the numbers in BarclaysManager's post above seem to be in the right ball park, and the consequences of such an error can actually be far more damaging for the individual concerned.
