Hello
I need some advice from the pro's, whick spark plug should I go for?
The ones I've come across are NGK and Bosch super 4.
My car is a Honda Civic 1.8VTI-S DOHC, its done 60K now and the spark plugs have never been changed from new!
Mind you it's never had a service either, I suppose I'd better think about that as I'm losing MPG since I've had it. I used to get aroun 310miles and now I get around 250-270.
Thanks

Probably NGK is what it has now - but either are fine.

The NGK plugs will do the job, but the bosch ones are better, cost more though. For a little more then get the bosch
Definitely a service is require. If you want a cheap service then u can do a little DIY yourself. You can change the spark plugs and air filter yourself quite easily, if dont know how ask a friend who knows. Oil & filter change can be done at National Tyres for £25 full synthetic oil.
If you dont want the hassle then a full service will cost you about £150 from garages.0 -
Bosch super 4 are not worth the money. They don't do anything that a decent NGK does. It's marketing bull. I say this after using Champion, NGK and Bosch super 4 plugs over a period of years and rolling road testing various set ups. Super 4 provided no noticable difference on performance, starting, fuel consumption or power output.
You can buy NGK plugs at a motor factors for less than £2 each.
60K is way too long a time - new plugs and any distributor electrical parts needed will transform the performance.Happy chappy0 -
If the engine is B18C4, the plug is Denso K20PR-L11 or NGK BKR6E-N11 : gap 1.1mm.
The timing belt may require changing as the belt spec was changed, it's either 60k or 72k miles depending on build year.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Stick with NGK, but 60k is a long time not to service a car, i ways change the oil etc on a petrol car every 10k, so easy to do yourself, and every 6k on a diesel.
The oil will be like treacle when it come out, that does no engine any good, you should use 5w 30 semi-synthetic in a vtec i belive.0 -
You certainly do need to service that car, your low MPG is probably down to the air filter being blocked solid. I've never had a problem with NGK plugs but lots of people in the trade slate them and Champion, the originals your car should be fitted with are Denso. Its probably time to get your cam belt changed too, have you never had any problems with it in those 60,000 miles?0

My local Nationwide Autocentres are doing a full service for £119.99
Use your clubcard voucher as a deal and get 4 x shop value against the service, and then use your clubcard to get more points.0 -

Never had no problems what so ever, btw I have had my cam belt changed.
So, looks like it's a toss up between Denso and NGK then. And of course a service is needed.
If I got a full service would these include spark plugs and if it did what one would they put in there?
Thanks guys0 -
The full service would include spark plugs, it would from nationwideautocentres anyway.
As for the part, enquire at your local branch. You can find this by going to https://www.nationwideautocentres.co.uk0 -
I've got Denso IK22 platinum plugs in my FTO and the difference was immediate when they were changed for the originals. Not cheap mind at £10 each.
Heres a good bit of advice. Join the Civic Owners club as you'll get tonnes of free advice there on parts/cost/insurance and any problems you might have in the future.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
