Just a little question, probably nothing.

The last couple of times I've started this laptop up it's asked me to activate Windows.
Yesterday it wanted to be activated within 7 days, so I OKed it, and it said Windows was already activated. Fair enough, I thought. Figured the machine was just having a bit of a wobble.
Today it asked the same, only down to 6 days. Just wondering why it's all of a sudden started doing this really, and can I stop it?
It's a little annoying, plus I'm also wondering what it's going to do when it reaches 0!
Thanks.

It's not activating properly, it's it all legal and above board? If it keeps asking and gets to zero it won't allow you to use it properly, there should be an activation phone number, ring MS up and activate it over the 'phone, if the on-line activation is failing.0

Thanks you guys. As far as I know it's legal. A friend of my partner was the one that installed everything on this machine as I'm not technically minded at all- can you tell?! Will get him to have a look and see what he's done.0

Try running this tool and see what it comes up with:

Well, I now know my copy of Windows is genuine.
Still being asked for activation though. Sheesh, I'm confused! It's been running fine for the last month or so, and I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything out of the ordinary in the last few days. :wall:
Ahh well, OH can deal with it.0 -
I wonder do you have a virus? Try downloading, updating and running this and post the log back of a full scan after deleting what it finds.

We had a similar problem a few years ago. Do you have the little blue star in the bottom right corner of your screen? You can disable this and the stupid reminder messages by following this guide:
- Lauch Windows Task Manager.
- End wgatray.exe process in Task Manager.
- Restart Windows XP in Safe Mode.
- Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
- Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
- Lauch RegEdit.
- Browse to the following location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify - Delete the folder ‘WgaLogon’ and all its contents
- Reboot Windows XP.
