Buying Premium Bonds - but how ?

All by 'phone. No security aspects via NS&I other than - obviously - the transactions were authorised. All done via a joint Halifax account.

I was under the impression all would allow £30k transactions ..... simply depends on your current balance? Any internet transactions - other than to financial institutions - I've always done by Credit Card for safety. Inputs to Egg etc ..... via Direct Debit, as no practical limits there.

But, back to the Debit card, if it's somewhere like a car dealership .... the security can be a bit torrid. Their merchant acquirer will relay security questions from your Bank (normally anything over about £5k). But they tend to be 'how many DDs do you have / name some non-utility ones / last value on xxx one / regular credits to your current account + values' etc etc. I find it safer to print off a recent Statement / list of DDs etc .... and have them to hand! Whilst I could undoubtedly reel them all off at home ..... it's a different proposition with the receptionist's cleavage in your eyeline. I'm readily distracted by such things.
