40th Birthday weekend - need some inspiration please!

Hi - could do with some inspiration from all of you lovely mse's please!
My DH is 40 over the bh weekend at the end of April & relatives have kindly offered to come over & look after the littlies for the weekend for us to have a weekend away together!
I have been looking at the MrandMrsSmith web site for some ideas and they have some lush hotels but a lot of them are looking for a 3 night booking as it is bh weekend. I would like to treat him to somewhere quite plush with some spa facilities - not really bothered though if it is a hotel or a self catering little romantic hideaway somewhere. We would probably be staying Sat & Sun night 28 + 29th April & would like to be near a nice restaurant and also somewhere to do some event or activity on the Sunday - maybe hot air balloon, day at the races, theatre etc or something else as a treat - need some guidance here! Budget is around £500 or so all in
I am in Bucks - but could travel around 2 hours or so from here - any ideas guys?

Hi, we have a lovely hotel near us (hampshire) 'The Solent Hotel' - (https://www.shireinns.co.uk) - Its a 4* and does some great weekend packages, has a lovely resturant in house and a charming pub just one min from the door - as for things to do you have historic portsmouth with Gun Wharf Quays (https://www.gunwharf-quays.com) 15 mins away or Goodwood Race course (https://www.goodwood.co.uk) is 30 mins away and will have weekend racing - Entry to the 'posh' section is around £10 p/p and well worth the extra.

Its also really easy to get to straight off the M27 motorway.....

It may be a bit of a drive but it will be nice to know you have made an effort and once you have arrived you will feel you can really relax....
