Changing Supplier

Options
When I check with N Power for their new dual fuel online prices I am asked for my previous supplier first. If I give a another supplier instead I get a completely different set of tarrifs.

Can anyone explain why this is? A little legislated transparency would help us all.

What previous suppliers are you putting in?
  • PowerGen Which is the true current supplier and British Gas to get a comparison.

I think what will be happening is that the comparison sites work out your consumption (kWh)based on how much you spend quarterly or annually (although it is possible to enter kWh figures). Because you get less gas/electric for the same amount spent with one supplier rather than another, the kWh figure generated is different (and e.g. with British Gas wrong). This then affects the comparison.
  • I have provided both with the Kw/Hours for gas and electricity.

I have simply asked for the tariff that will be applied to each fuel:
    Powergen to NPower = Gas 3.165 then 1.691 Electricity 13.94 then 6.05
British Gas to NPower = Gas 3.968 then 2.068 Electricity 18.11 then 8.14

Both sets of figures wer provided reluctantly.
