Thanks Benjus for the speedy response. Clicked on the link and it sounded great so clicked on the nationwide website link and it says you have to pay 1% visa load fee okay not too bad and then on the Q&A it says if you withdraw cash you also have to pay a fee - so I could be reading it wrong but it looks like the info on MSE is out of date (:-((((
Thanks for for trying though0 -
I opened a Nationwide Flex Account especially for this purpose when I went travelling a few years ago. It was great not being charged anything for withdrawals worldwide, however this sadly isn't the case any more.
Where are you planning to travel? If it's just within Europe then Nationwide is still the best as they charge nothing for withdrawals. 1% for the rest of the world but this is still good.0 -

Well, it's still free within Europe, and 1% elsewhere is better than almost everybody else! There's the Post Office credit card, which is free worldwide - but don't use it for cash withdrawals.
There are no cards that I know of that are cheaper than Nationwide for withdrawing cash; buying cash or Travellers' Cheques will cost you a "hidden" percentage on the exchange rate (and possibly a commission as well), which in general will add up to more than 1%. There may be some exceptions to this rule but in general it's still the cheapest way to access money abroad.
There are no separate charges for withdrawing cash - just the 1%.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

also that earlier link was for a Nationwide credit card. We are all referring to the Flex Account debit card account.0
