If Carmine really does use so much energy that £70 cashback is wiped out after only two months then this means he must be spending about £750 every month in Sainsbury's! That's 18,750 jars of curry sauce!

I hope he highlights this in the appropriate thread.

I'm in Yorkshire, I was thinking of doing exactly this - switching as soon as the Cashback comes through.

Assuming it takes a month for the £70 to be paid, then another month to change supplier, surely the 13.8% discount you don't get after those two months won't amount to more than £70...? Especially in September/October when gas usage won't be that high.

There's absolutely no way on this Earth that you will be with a new supplier within 2 months! 3 months absolute min with Eon, i.e. a quarterly bill to pay...with no discount. Sign up for this now & that period will include October & November (high usage months traditionally). The cheapest possible Eon tariff you are signing up to is much more expensive (certainly in my area) than the new tariff from EDF. On 'average' usage the cheapest Eon tariff is £6 a month more expensive (on average) than EDF. Don't forget that is assuming you get the Eon 13.8% discount. You won't. It's entirely conceivable that the average user will accrue a bill of £450 during this time. Forget the tariff rates shown on the switching sites, they won't apply as they include the large discount Eon won't be giving you.

All I'm stating is the pitfalls should have been alluded to in the OP. To not do so is negligent IMO. This is nowhere near as good a deal as he's making out. If it was Scottish Power you were switching to, who don't indulge in the 'bad loser' shenanigans that Eon do then this would be a great deal.

Edit: Forgot to say, EDF are giving £40 for a dual switch. Taking into account all the above, strangely enough that would probably be the better move financially. This is the energy industry, take nothing at face value, lol.

PS Please no-one run away with the idea that I am an EDF hugger. Far from it, they are French for starters, lol.

Actually not far off the mark, KY . You are forgetting that those with more than one person in the house (we have 6 at the moment if you count both my son's GFs who appear to have decided they like our house much more than their parents') spend much more on groceries & petrol etc than people who live alone. It's a fact of life.

Why would I go through all the ts + cs of their tariffs in a thread which was intended to alert moneysavers contemplating a switch that they had a good cashback on offer?

It's just a troll like comment. (I don't feed this troll, ignore his posts, and saw this quoted by redwin, hence my late response.)

And modesty prevents me from naming the person who first alerted the forum (last March) to eon's changed conditions, when they stopped giving a discount on the final bill.

Classic! Because it's actually going to be nowhere near £70 when the punter switches away for a new cashback figure (it could be very close to nowt!), that's why. You're very hot at pulling up other posters who don't give the full SP on things, but when you do it yourself and get found out you call me a troll. Fantastic hyprocisy, if you don't mind me saying.

An 'average' user who signs up to this then stays for 12 months would actually be worse off than signing up to the cheapest current tariff (EDF online 5) instead. When you take into account EDF pay £40 for a dual fuel switch, are over £70 (recognise that figure?) cheaper per year on average usage..and don't withdraw the discount on your final bill. Back to the drawing board, I feel.

PS Shall I balance your ego count and post a link to your post calling someone a lair beacuse they stated (correctly) that npower pay their discount annually in arrears?

PPS In summary, cashback tarts avoid exit fees like the plague but with Eon you ALWAYS get an exit fee no matter what tariff you choose - they just don't call it one.

I'll reproduce your Eon discount post you linked to, these details really should have been entered into your opening post in this thread as they are important.

Eon have imposed new ts + cs on their customers.

One change may be of significance when switching away from them.

Their cheaper on line tariffs have good discounts applied to each bill (around 21% for a single supply, and more for dual supply).

But under the new conditions, they have inserted a new one:

Quote:No discounts will be applied to the final bill

As the discount could be quite large, then it may be worth timing a switch so that it completes shortly after a bill is due to be produced.

Then the next and final bill will only cover a short period, with a corresponding loss of just a little discount

Forgot to say, here's the cashback for EDF (Reason Quentin didn't post it probably due to him only posting Quidco offers for some reason. Yes, I've noticed, lol).

Check out their 'new' online 5 tariff on your favourite switching site and then look further down for the cheapest Eon tariff, lol.

Some of us have been applying to switch everytime our cashback becomes validated/confirmed so we been applying to leave again before our feet has touched the ground. ;)

:D I commend you for your bravery, BLF, but it's a high risk strategy IMO. For instance, if it subsequently declined you would be on shaky ground getting the cashback site to successfully 'retrieve' the money on your behalf. And without getting £70 this Eon deal becomes financially punishing owing to the relatively non-competitive pricing and the previously-discussed lack of discount on your final bill.
