Do you bank online with Halifax and ever gone overdrawn?

If you have gone overdrawn, did you get a message in your paperfree section to notify you of your charges or did the charges get applied and then you were notified.

I am trying to get 63pounds back from Halilfax and their letter in answer to my request states that they comply with Banking Codes and so notify customers of any charges/fees to be made the day following any transaction that made the account overdrawn.

I have checked all my paperfree stuff and there was no such thing sent to me.

I am just wondering how anyone else has be notified and so what i should be looking for.

When you get a statement in the paper-free section, it says half way down "you will be charged £XX.XXp next month"

They dont send it as a seperate letter, its always included in your monthly statements.

Thats weird, my account always has it included in the statement.

I'm using a High Interest current account and have just checked all my statements since 2007, and none of them have seperate letters for the overdraft, its always included in the statement as shown below:
Closing Balance £XX.XX The above figures are applicable to this statement period.
Amount of interest credited £0.00 Amount of interest debited £0.00 Amount of fees to pay £0.00

The letter from the Halifax definitely states

"you will have been notified of the fees on the day following the transaction that occurred for the fees to be incurred. In order to comply with the Banking Code all our customers are pre-notified of any fees incurred".

So if the account was overdrawn on the 19 February, according to their own statement (above) I should have been notified on 20 February by my chosen method, which is email, which was my option when first opening the account.

My statement date was end of February so that is at least 9 days later.

The Halifax did once make a mistake on my account which was sorted very quickly, but on that occasion they did email to my paper free section a letter which showed up as Notification of Charges the day they made the mistake.

News to me then, I have never had a notification of charges in the 3 years I have been with them.

Yes it certainly says on my list of paper-free documents "Bank account charge notification" for the error in November 2007.

Nothing on the paper-free documents for the charges for February 2009.

And the letter definitely states "You will have been notified of the fees ...........................in order to comply with Banking Codes all our customers are pre-notified of any fees incurred"

I have faxed them today to quote their own letter and point out that they have taken fees from my husbands account and will not be refunding it,but given refunded my fees of 63pounds as a "gesture of goodwill".

Sorry I got that the wrong way round in my original post, I have been refunded 63pounds as a "gesture of goodwill". My husband will not be refunded his 63 fees.

Both accounts opened the same amount of time, each account overdrawn once in that time, which was February 2009.

Just to update anyone that banks with Halifax and uses their email as preferred method of contact.

I had a letter from them today to say they will be refunding the 63pounds that they had charged me.

The letter says it is a gesture of goodwill and they will refund the money in full and final settlement.

Also says that email notifications are sometimes returned due to invalid e-mail addresses or not delivered due to spam filters and that I should check my email regularly for any email notifications. They then went on to apologise "if at this time you have not recieved notification of fees incurred".

So perhaps if you do bank online with Halifax and they have charged you and you havent received an email notifiction of charges you may be able to tell them that fact and see if you get your money back.

It has taken a few weeks from start to finish but got there in the end.:j
