Hello lovely people on MSE! I'm sure you'll be able to help me and my OH. We received today our renewal from RAC for breakdown cover and the cost was just over £100 for 2 cars for the year. I'm sure that there are cheaper services available, but are they as good?
Any recommendations or problems encountered would be gratefully appreaciated!

Take a look at Martins article on the subject : http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1094823518,14076,
Autoaid seems to be the one everyone is ranting and raving about at them moment even though you have to pay then claim ... number is in Martins article. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
My breakdown cover is due very soon. I'm with Autonational Rescue. https://www.autonational.co.uk. The cost was £63 for the Total Superservice. However the cost has gone up to £84 because I've called them out a few times (lost no claims bonus of 25%).
I'm really happy with the service, (and i've had to use them a few times) but am going to start looking for a cheaper alternative. They are connected somehow to AutoAid who are cheaper. The phone no is the same, so I hope they'll let me swap companies/cover!! Has anyone done this ok?Saving money is fun :A0 -
I followed Martin's advice last summer and used EuropAssist for £36 for top cover. I admit I was a little wary - no posh booklet or brochure, just an email with the policy number and contact number.
Last Monday I broke down on the M5, 100 miles from my holiday destination. The breakdown truck arrived after only 25 minutes. It could not be fixed roadside so I was put on a low loader and taken to my hotel. Absolutely excellent, no fuss service.
Had the local garage not been able to fix the problem I would have been entitled to a hire car for a certain period and other help.
Highly recommended.0
