Changing car insurance

Hi All
I was going to change my car insurance this month (May) as my current policy ends then and is much more expensive than other quotes I have had. Unfortunately, 5 days ago I had an accident which was not my fault and I am currently waiting for the claim to go through. I will hopefully be claiming off the other driver's insurance ( I say 'hopefully' as the claim is ongoing and I don't know whether or not he has admitted liability).
My question is: can you change insurers when the policy ends if you have an outstanding claim? Will another company accept you? Or am I stuck with my current insurer for another year and have to pay their exhorbitant prices?
Thanks in advance for any help.

You can change.
You will be rated as if it is a fault claim, though if subsequently you end up being cleared of blame, and the costs are recovered from the third party then your profile/history will revert and you will get a premium adjustment to reflect the reinstatement of NCD, no fault claim etc.0 -
Thanks Quentin
I'm glad I can change without too many complications. The renewal premium I have is a good 40% higher than others I had been quoted. Lets hope they stay near these figures when I re-apply!
Thanks again0
