warm uht milk to blood heat or heat ordinary milk to nearly boiling and let cool till blood heat. add in a big dollop of commercial live yoghurt.
Put in flask and leave 6 hours.
To determine how much milk, fill the flask with the cold milk and then use that amount.0 -
Is this any good - Yogurt without a yogurt maker?
If so, I'll add you question to it later.

Just to add to all the above comments that when you open up your yoghurt flask/pot, the finished yoghurt will often seem quite runny. However, once it has cooled for a few hours and been stored in the fridge it often thickens up.0

I'm not keen on unflavoured yoghurt, so I find a packet of cheap angel delight works well as a flavouring and helps to thicken it a bit:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

Hi Le Foot
My take is
1 scald ane pre-heat a LARGE thermos flask
2 warm a litre of uht milk-any strength
3 whisk in 2 tbs powdered milk and 2 tbs bio yog
4 pour this mix into your nice warm flask
5 go to bed
your yog will probably be a bit tepid in the morning, buy hey...........0 -
Has anyone tried making yoghurt without a special yoghurt-making machine? How easy is it? Any tips for a complete beginner?0

Hi EmptyPurse,
There was a recent thread on making yoghurt without a yoghurt maker that should help so I've added your thread to it to keep all the advice and recipes together.

My kids eat loads of yogurt so i'm going to have a go at making yogurt in a flask. Just a quicky though, how long does the yogurt last once made and put in the fridge?

I used to do mine in a bowl wrapped in a towel & a small blanket
I lived in a remote farmhouse miles from the shops, so the dried & canned milk in the recipe was a godsend
sorry, too ancient to do metric
4 oz dried skimmed milk (this makes it nice & thick)
3 Tablespoons plain yogurt
3/4 pint cold water
1 large can evaporated milk
1 & 1/2 pints hot water
in a bowl, whisk together dried milk, yogurt & cold water
add evaporated milk & hot water
cover, wrap & leave in a warm place till set, overnight's usually enough
adapted from a very old Adelle Davis recipe, & it makes a lot!0
