Looking for some help re error messages that came up while scanning my pc. It's a bit long so bear with me please.

I was scanning with Avira and it stopped at 52% and these messages were on screen.

Microsoft Visual C ++Runtime Library
Program:C:\program files\avira\antivir desktop\avscan.exe
THIS APPLICATION HAS REQUESTEDTHE RUNTIME TO TERMINATE IN AN UNUSUAL WAY. PLEASE CONTACT THE APPLICATIONS TEAM FOR MORE INFORMATION. when press ok this next message came up.

ERROR
THE APPLICATION MODULE C:\PROGRAMFILES\AVIRA\ANTIVIR DESKTOP\RCIMAGE.DLL CANNOT BE FOUND OR HAS BEEN MODIFIED OR DESTROYED.. THE AVWSC.EXE CANNOT BE STARTED. PLEASE CHECK YOUR INSTALLATION.

Scan was stopped and I wasn't sure what to do next.
It was 5.30am this morn and I left it running with Super anti spyware while at work. I came in after 4 this afternoon and it was still running. It had found 83 cookies which I quarantined then deleted.

Any advice please as what to do next?

Well I would have said it was a corrupt installation, but with Superantispyware taking taking 12 hours, that seems excessive. Has it finished now by the way?

I usually try malwarebytes - think it's one of the best of the free scanners. update and run a full scan. You can find the program here:

EDIT: Of course it must have finished when you've deleted them! D'oh! :D

    Thanks for reply.

I recently left AVG for Avira last week and have malwarebytes, superanti spyware and Avira. It has been going fine and thought I would run the Avira scan this week. It started at 12.30am this morn, but not sure what time it stopped but had only done 52%. I thought the scan would be a bit quicker now. Do you think I should do a scan now with malware?

  • I'd reckon it wouldn't do any harm to do so. So this is the first time you've run Avira? Sometimes my scans would freeze as well, but only usually when I'm out of Physical Memory? Have you restarted your computer to free up the memory and tried it then?

I'll give it a go shortly (hope it doesn't go on for hours...I start to worry.)

I'll let you know how it goes...fingers crossed.

I ran a scan with malwarebytes last night and it took just over 3 hours. But I was also downloading at the same time and haven't restarted my computer in a week!

I've put a quick scan on just now for starters, hope this is ok.

Hope it's finished before I go to bed.

if avira fails again, it may be worth running it in safe mode

I'm doing a quick scan just now with Malware.

Sorry...What do I do for safe mode? (I'm not that very good with all this stuff)

The quick scan with malware found nothing.

Not sure whether to leave a few days then try Avira again.

I'll come back on here tonight and see if any other thoughts.

    Thanks
