Stupid question about PPI reclaiming

I have a load of credit/store cards, loans and home shopping catalogues which all added worthless PPI to my accounts. I am starting with the oldest accounts first. My question is this......for instance on my MBNA credit card account, I have statements which state 'payment protection cover', but I don't have the PPI policy numbers or even know who the policy is with. Could I send the template letters to MBNA?? or do I need to try and find out who the policy is with. I may have the original terms and conditions leaflets that might have the policy providers name, but I have no actual policy number....

any ideas??

The credit card number or loan number is all you need.

Where I work the actual "policy" number is useless because we have no facility to search by it

    Hi there

I would contact MBNA to find out, then when you know, write to whoever it is, and request a copy of the agreement.
They normally charge a £1 for each one, so enclose a £1 in postal order of cheque payment, they should supply by 12 days.

Remember to write down your date of birth and if the address was different then, and any change of surnames, so they could track this down.

However, after 6 years it may be more difficult in them tracking this down or even supplying the information, but try, if they are unable to, they will let you know and return your payment.

    Always post by recorded delivery.

More details on reclaiming on the link below, there are templates to use, but write your own reasons for why you believe you were mis sold.
They have 8 weeks to respond, another letter maybe required if they do not resolve this, keep on at them until you receive the final response.

In the final response, they should give details on how you can take this further, normally with the Finanical ombudsman service (FOS) if eligible.

Good luck and post for help when required.;)

thanks for that, and who should the letters be sent to.....i.e. MBNA themselves or the company the policy would have been with? I am getting confused, do I send the stage1 template letter that says why I think I have been mis-sold or do I have to send the request for policy documents with the £1 fee? I have most of my statements, although not all.

    sorry for all the questions

The PPI could have been sold by the insurers or the company so its a bit hit and mis there, I'd send a letter to the company the card is with though as it was most likely sold by them - and that is what matters in the end.

    thanks,
do I need to send the template letter asking for the original policy and details of payments, or the stage1 letter, where I am asking them to justify the addition of the PPI premiums?........

    .....questions......questions......

I would send both ...but separately so that they don't get mixed up or one issue doesn't get forgotten about.
