BT Text nuisance calls

I have TPS on my unlisted phone number, but BT texts are not covered under TPS. All the sales and political parties have moved their messages to text messages which is very annoying because if you hang up, you get phoned again until you delete the message.
Surely this is a nuisance call and we never requested to opt for BT "voice" text messages. The other problem is that I am slightly deaf and when I did not understand something I could ask the caller to repeat it but you can't do this with "voice" text messages.
Can any one advise if you can prevent text or voice messages being sent to your number as I cannot find anything relevant on the BT website which is just as confusing as their phone bills. Can changing from BT to another provider help?

Phone 0800 587 5252 and follow the instructions to bar such calls. IIRC, option 5 is to bar them completely (other options are curfew times).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Darn nuisance them assuming that every body wants it. Surely they need to ask your permission first instead of imposing it on you?0

You can stop the BT version which most mobile operators use.
Unfortunately, T-Mobile use their own system so, if someone sends you texts from a mobile on T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile, you still get them. In that case, the CLI will show 07953966066 and you have to call that number to stop them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hi,
I have just received a text type message on my answering machine and 1471 gave me the callers number. 07953966066. MSE once gave me a site to use which gives alternative numbers to 0800. the site is SAYNOTO0870.COM and if you file in 07953966066 it tells you it comes from BRITISH TELECOM itself. This is surely unethical but at least we now know the source.0 -
