Credit card charge for missing payment due date

Hello all MSE's!
Im looking for some advice regarding a credit card company that has charged me £12 for missing the payment due date.
I have paid them in plenty of time every month without fail since the account was opened, however, unfortunately I did not receive my statement in the post this particular month and so I missed the payment due date.
It was only two days after the payment was due that I realised that I must be due to make a payment soon and hadnt received a statement. I immediately checked online and realised the payment was now late and they had charged me £12.
Upon seeing this I paid the full balance immediately (minus the £12 charge) and wrote to them explaining that I had never received the statement. They have not replied.
The question is, does anyone think I have a leg to stand on? I realise its my word against theirs - somehow the statement got lost in the post and that's neither my fault nor theirs.
Should I bother to pursue this do you think?

If this is the first time give them a call and sometimes as a good will gesture they often refund the charge.
For future reference set up a direct debit for the minimum amount to be paid each month so you are never late in making a payment again. Pay off any more in addition to this as you wish.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
