virgin holidays florida , free car hire question

asking for a friend of a friend , virgin holiday packages to florida state a "free rental car included" and then a mention of insurance upgrades from £20 odd a day

im not clear whats free and whats needed

can they turn up and claim their "free" car and leave fully insured with nothing extra to pay? or is it not insured at all /3rd party

probably just the car insurances will be needed as well. get them to check and if thats the case get them to look at co such as fifteen02.com or usrentacar they will probably work out cheaper

do an anuall policy for £49 or £4.50 daily.Apparently this will cover the insurance excesses,but you would still need to take out the basic cover,cdw,airport fees taxes ect.
Usually works out cheaper to go through one of the sites above,or Netflights ,who cover everything.

yeah i told em that i would rent elsewhere that has a fully inclusive rate

theyre insistant its all free...im not so sure lol

I've just taken a holiday with Virgin. The free car hire turned out to be £360 for two weeks for the insurance, full size family car. If you refuse the free car you have to pay them £30 a person which in my case would be £150. While I agree the free car is well overpriced at £360. I could not get a similar rental for £210 for the two week period. If it wasn't for the fact they had mispriced the holiday by £1800 in my favour I would be upset!!

check with the company you hire the car through, most of the US ones dont have excesses, i know the ones we have used for the last 3 trips havent

we went with virgin it was cheaper for me to arrange the hire myself than pay them what they wanted for insurance etc.. and we hired a dodge 5.7 hemme!!

didnt even need to leave a credit card imprint..

did you tell them you didnt want the car? i think id just scuttle off at the airport and leave em to it

also guessing they'l get the most billy basic car unless they chip in even more money

If the deal mentions insurance upgrades then I'd be willing to bet that any insurance that does come with it is going to be as basic as possible (probably just like the car ).
As previous posters have said it's pretty cheap to get all the extra cover you might need through 3rd parties, almost certainly cheaper than the prices Virgin would charge for equivalant cover.
At the end of the day part of what Virgin are selling is convenience, sure they'll do all the running around and organising for you, but it's going to cost more than if you go out there and find an equivalent service yourself.

i have just costed 2 weeks with usrentacar and can not believe the price, it seems really reasonable compared to the others

does anyone have a way of getting the car seats down, i could buy new for cheaper!
