Help holiday payment disappeared!!

Over the bank holiday weekend I phoned up to pay the final payment on our holiday.
The payment was by switch and went through no problems.
I checked afterwards on my online banking and the payment showed as pending.
It was still on yesterday.

Today the payment has disappeared! Not rejected or bounced or anything. There was plenty in to cover the payment anyway. The balance has increased by the amount of the payment but no sign of the payment at all.

Can't ring the branch till tommorrow, but rang the holiday company who state they have an authorisation code as it is paid as far as they are concerned. The hoilday rep suggested it may reclear shortly?

Any ideas or simular experiences? Want to be reassured that the hoilday we saved up for us and the kids that they have been looking forward to all year won't get cancelled and we lose a deposit :(.

If you paid it over the BH weekend then it's just reached the time (normally 7 working days) where your Bank return it to 'available' .... if it hasn't been claimed.

If the holiday company have an authorisation code they should contact their 'merchant acquirer' who collects card payments on their behalf ... and query why that hasn't been done? It's nothing to do with your Bank ... they can't pay it if it isn't asked for.

Thanks for that mike, makes sense. But I only paid Saturday morning so just 2 working days surely?
Worried that we will lose our deposit or the holiday, but they are still booking online at a simular price (just checked). So hope if they (or their representitives) or the bank have cocked up, they will rebook us and not try to keep the deposit.

Its a hol in the uk in a caravan, and they aren't a huge company (about 8 sites) and we have been with them many times before so hope I can argue it out with them.
We paid just when due so the cash was in our savings account as long as possible (every bit of interest helps-not much these days) but was trying to be moneysaving.

If we had to I suppose we could cover the cost of the deposit and a new booking, but hope not.
Will check online in the morning and call them all if required.
Why is nothing even easy lol.

Sorry ... my Calendar and I not seeing things the same way! This 'naff weather in the North .... makes it seem longer.

But if they got an authorisation code when you paid them .. and it was showing as deducted from 'available' .... but now isn't (and there's no debit on your account) .......... then it still means they haven't claimed it. Have a word with one of their managers ..... possibly one of the few that know who their merchant acquirer is!

They need to decide if there's a problem and they can resurrect the transaction (which is no longer guaranteed now the funds are back in 'available') ...... or whether to take your card details and do it again.

Alibobsy, which bank is it? Natwest and RBS normally show funds avail again after 2 days if not claimed but if the payment has been authorised then it will go out eventually when it's claimed, I wouldn't worry about it just yet - If it would give you piece of mind ask the company to send you a receipt and then you have proof it's been paid

Thanks for the replies, checked with the bank this morning who said the transaction is there and fully cleared and yes it is Natwest lol.
Checked online and as they said it shows as cleared yesterday, with a date of 2/5/09 in the details.
Very strange as it had dissappeared completely yesterday, bank couldn't explain it except to say may have been some delay due to the bank holiday?

At least it has gone now, and kids will get their hols lol.

In the north here mike but on the other side of the pennines.

Go to York alot as have relations over there, our kids were jellous of their cousins cos york got snow when we got none :(.

Still good for the garden we seem to avoid late frosts lol. Sick of the rain in the last few days tho. Dry at mo so garden beckons.

    Thanks guys

    Pleased it's sorted.

Dry here as well ... first time in days. But if your caravan is close to here ... it's probably further away now! The wind is really foul .... so good excuse for not doing that job the OH had me lined up for on the garage roof!
