Help holiday payment disappeared!!

Over the bank holiday weekend I phoned up to pay the final payment on our holiday.
The payment was by switch and went through no problems.
I checked afterwards on my online banking and the payment showed as pending.
It was still on yesterday.
Today the payment has disappeared! Not rejected or bounced or anything. There was plenty in to cover the payment anyway. The balance has increased by the amount of the payment but no sign of the payment at all.
Can't ring the branch till tommorrow, but rang the holiday company who state they have an authorisation code as it is paid as far as they are concerned. The hoilday rep suggested it may reclear shortly?
Any ideas or simular experiences? Want to be reassured that the hoilday we saved up for us and the kids that they have been looking forward to all year won't get cancelled and we lose a deposit

Just a thought are the bank "holding it" because of the amount to make extra interest (only a few hundred but if all transactions like this are held could add up?).

The payment will only show as pending for a few days, usually 2 but could be longer depending on your bank and then go back onto your available balance....
After this the retailer has up to 6 months to claim the money, again this usually happens within a day or two but can take longer. Very unusual for it to take 6 months but I have seen it happen.
So, as long as the retailer/holiday company say all is well, then knock the amount off your balance (in your mind or spreadsheet or wherever) so you don't spend it (!) and wait for it to clear through the account.

Which bank are you with ? Some times " pending " payments go off my account andmoney shows as available again then will come off the next day.
It will proabally come out tomorrow , would not worry about itTOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
Thanks for the replies. After a worried night this was sorted. The transaction appeared again today, but shows as cleared yesterday.
Very relieved in the end. Kids will get their hols
