EBay item won but now not available?

Can anyone let me know what I should do please?
I just won an item for £10 - a Nica purse.
The seller has just emailed me to say;
Hi I am really sorry but I have just come back from holiday to find that part of my flat has been flooded and the purse along with other items is now water damaged so is no longer available. I have literally walked through the door to find this otherwise I would have removed the item from ebay. Again my apologies.
The purse would cost £35 at Debenhams.
Is she pulling out of the sale because the bids didn't go high enough do you think?
I really wanted that purse and I won it fairly?
What do you think I should do, I have 314 green sales/buys.

You can't force her to sell, probably worth watching though in case she later relists the item on that account or any other she might have.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Agree with Soolin - I once won a painting for a very low price and the seller told me that she couldn't send it as she'd put a chair leg through it when she was getting it out of her cupboard....."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

Never mind, you win some, you lose some.

Was that the one you thought was valuable? Never caught the end of that story
My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Hi Fay - Wow! That was a while ago!
No it wasn't the valuable one - I did actually sell that at auction and whilst it didn't exactly buy me a luxury yacht, it DID pay for a brand new kitchen
Keep it under your hat tho'!

what is sellers FB like? I would just leave neutral FB saying didnt sell item due to damaged in flood. Then others can see in future if she tries excuses again.TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

so she experiences a flood and the first thing she can think of doing is letting you know this - surely there are other (no offence) more important things she needs to sort out!
ive heard excuses before but this is a great one!0 -
Hi I have had this happen a few times and every single time it has been on a low bid. I have never yet been turned down for something that I have paid over the odds for. How's it going Soolin? thanks for all your help on my merino bedding fiasco, remember that?

I would ask her to send you a photo of the flood damaged purse, and suggest you might still like to purchase it if it's not too bad... If she then makes excuses like "I threw it away" then leave a neg or neutral, as she would have to take photos for the insurance!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I know what you mean - exactly how high was this flood, or was the purse on the floor :rotfl:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
