For anyone considering switching to npower based on their new sign online rates, be aware that these rates will very soon after joining increase much more rapidly than their standard rates. For example I joined Sign Online 2 in November, after receiving telephone advice that there were no price rises on the way due to the existing freeze. At the time the 1st 728kwh was 13.34p followed by 6.03p for over 728kwh. This compared to 14.52p/7.43p for the standard tariff (inc VAT), equating to a 17% saving for 6000kwh per year.
Of course there was a big price rise in January, followed by another in March. I'm now paying 19.11p/8.41p, compared to the standard rate of 19.12p/9.5p, which means that the discount over the standard rate is now only 9%. The discount has almost halved in just four months, and would have halved for a lighter user.
What's more annoying is that the advertised new sign online rate (for those switching now) is 14.91p/6.17p i.e. a 32% discount from standard, and a 26% discount from my sign online tariff! I would have been better waiting and switching now, though no doubt these new low rates will only last a matter on months and will soon converge on the standard rates like mine did.

Does seem that npower are up to something.
The Sign Online 4 Tariff was released mid-February and was at a discount to the preceding Sign Online 3 Tariff. The Sign Online 4 Tariff was not increased along with npowers other Tariffs on 10 March and is not (currently) due to increase on 31 March.0
