Lasagne in slow cooker

I don't know if its just me, but it seems wrong to do lasagne in SC..... no crispy tasty cheesy crusty scrummy top....

I think I am not a true OS convert yet-I like my SC but sometimes I prefer to cook stuff in the oven or on the hob.... Is that wrong
I find everything goes watery in SC, grand for soups or very runny stews, but if I want to thicken it up I have to add cornflour etc (yuck) 0 -
Could we have a link to the recipe please - some of us get lost in those indexed threads very easily.:o"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

No it's not wrong. I love oven baked lasagne and can't imagine it tasting as good if cooked in a slow cooker. I do like using mine for soups and stews/casseroles especially on busy nights when everyone is coming and going at different times. The liquid in a slow cooker doesn't evaporate in the way it would if cooked in the oven or hob so I have adapted my recipes to use less liquid hence no need to thicken and more concentrated flavours. I find the slow cooker useful, but I agree, some things are just better cooked in the traditional way.

I will be going on maternity leave soon and have decided that while Im at home I will start batch cooking to build up a stock of meals in the freezer so when baby arrives I hopefully won't have to worry too much about meals. I have a question..can I cook a lasagne in a slow cooker? If so, would this be the way to do it....brown mince and onions in a pan first, throw in slow cooker along with other veg, add tin of toms, seasoning, stir it, layer in lasagne sheets, top with white sauce and grated cheese...lid on, leave to cook on low for 8 hours. Is that right?
Helen, if you are going to be making the sauces anyway, then why not make extra and make up the lasagnes in foil or other freezer suitable dishes.
Then they could be frozen and just thrown into the oven when needed.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

What recipe are you looking for? If you let me know I'll see if I can find it for you.
Pinksilverbirch wrote: »Well Lasagna was a 50/50 success, Hubby, eldest son and me loved it, youngest son and daughter wouldn't eat it and eldest daughter ate some but wasn't keen, but then again my lot are finicky at the best of times and finding something they will all eat is near impossible. I will put the recipe in the proper section in case anyone wants to try it.
Oh, and i did find that it didn't need the extra liquid as once it started to cook down it was just right as RachB said.
Tonights experiment is Pork and Pineapple curry which i have just put in so fingers crossed this gets more of them on side.
That one please!
If I can print it off I can present it to DD1 with a smile.

Glad it wasn't just me then; I thought that was what Pooky was after and searched but couldn't find it
I won;t be trying it, though; for me lasagne has to be in the oven, to get the toasty cheese top

Thinking about it now,I think I'll just stick to using the oven for lasagne as I think the slow cooker is better suited to curry, stew, casserole ect..
Thanks
I think you'll find that very soon I'll be a pain in this thread :rotfl: love my little man he is amazing :j0
