My wife has a provisional licence and has just got her one years no claims car insurance bonus but at the moment we cannot afford to renew her insurance, is there a time period before she loses her no claims bonus or will it still stand if we start a car insurance again in the summer...Advice and info please..
Also does anyone know of some good car insurance places for her being a provisional driver with a years no claims as the one she had the renew price was more than last year:eek: .

this in brief from an email I got from Provisional Marmalade

There is no upper age limit for Provisional Marmalade or for that matter Young Marmalade - the policies are OK until at least 70 years of age. Age discrimination is against the law.

We call ourselves Young Marmalade as generally it is young drivers that have a problem with insurance.

    Once again, many thanks

I believe you lose it after 2 years but not sure if that's company specific or industry wide. Search/ask on the insurance forum for confirmation.

That's just the way it works - new customers get discounts, so shop around. Check if/how much it will go up after she passes, and be aware you may run into problems entering NCD with provisional licences on the main comparison websites, so you may want to leave time to get on the phone or see a broker.

im not entirely sure how that youngmarmalade will actually help, it looks like a PCP or HP site where you buy a car and get "free" insurance if you are over 25. Since the cheapest car is £169 a month (with "free" insurance) then I cannot see how this helps someone who cannot afford insurance in the first place. The only other option to hold or build insurance is to buy a second hand cheap car with low insurance (group 1 or 2) on 3rd party only.

apart from that, just use a price comparison website and ignore the renewals.

Let's hope the policy they link through to is better designed than their website!

£89.50 per 28 days seems pretty pricey!

The marmalde policy is underwritten by Zenith who are in my experience a very cheap and cheerfull Insurer.

I would recommend you use a different Insurer

if you read the page properly

The initial period of cover is for 28 days at a cost of £89.50 and thereafter the policy can be extended either on a 7 or 28 day basis.
    Renewals Discount

We have negotiated a discount with the insurers of £20.00 for each subsequent 28 day period for our customers, so instead of paying £89.50 for an additional 28 days you will only pay £69.50

this works out at apx £900 per year for a learner driver of ANY age with their own policy,

how can you say thats expensive:confused::confused:

Not sure if this relates to someone with provisional licence but we have had a number of people elect to come out of the Company Car and buy their own here. When they apply for insurance we issue a letter saying if thay have had claims on the company insurance and then (if they have not) their Insurance companies (as far as I have been told by our employees) allow their previous no claims years from their insurances prior to having a company car.

There is always the "Family" Car Insurance policies which allow you to add or remove Family members at will. I think Admiral Insurance do one bt can not be sure.
