Write a letter asking for my funds less £100 (to still qualify as a Member).
Reduce monthly deposits from £1000 to £10. ( I use Nationwide and can change the amount on their web-site.) still keeping Regular Saver open to run it's course till end of July.
Hopefully get cheque back quick enough to put into Leeds Member Bond offering 5.5% Gross for a year. (Having left £100 to still qualify as a Member in their internet account (4.6% Gross)Old Saying Once bitten twice shy

but how many people would press refresh?
I firstly went to their site direct and that is where I got the link from
Its not their site its your browser !... its cached the old page... hence press refresh .... to get the latest page off the site...0 -
I know that it's probably not much consolation to people who have managed to amass a respectable amount in a hitherto decent rate paying account but if anyone wishes to start again on a shorter time horizon, Leek are offering 6% fixed for 12 months (max £250/month) http://www.leekunited.co.uk/savings/sav8/sav8.htm0

They've had 10 months of £2k from me, as I haven't withdrawn anything, so I guess I can ring up tomorrow and close the account and collect the bonus all in one go. Correct?0

Yes I may be clever .... But still cheesed off !!
Now glancing into my murky crystal ball , I predict that in September 06, they will be raising the rate to 5.25%0 -

Cheek !!!! Bloomin Cheek !!! Ploughed literaly £30k+ into them !!! Bloomin cheeky cheek !!!!
Arghhh!!!
It was so easy just to keep shuving in 2k per month without worrying about what to do on anniversary ! No notice given to account holders i see !
The cahoot at 5.3% is now our best account and thats instant access !!! There is no point in keeping the derbyshire savers now - Other than we HAVE TO WAIT till July !!!
Okay maybe there was a rule about one withdrawl per year ? - Have to go back and check that out.Deemy wrote:They droped the rate last year from 5.8% to 5.4% and now to 5% thats .8% drop in less than a year !!! cheeky !!!!!!s ! 1. It was recommended by Martin, that's still on site. Seemed one of the best buys, knowing that it was variable. That was the deal. It was variable, they have varied it. Ssawayitgoes.
2. Probly in most people's interest to keep the thing for a term but reduce their monthly contribution to the minimum nec. in order to benefit from the bonus
3. Hope you'll feel better after giving callcentre girl (they are 75%) earbashing but not much point IMO. Either they're trained in handling angry clients or they'd learn it in a week, and makes their job more interesting, in the time you take to let off they can probably get the fingernails of one hand done.
4. But you could hit the Derbyshire a bit. As I said they got the savers because they could advertise a good product - and even have others advertise it for them. But they keep the savers because of inertia, the botheration of changing. I'm strongly in favour of people changing lending the moment a rate is reduced, but to give a signal it needs a good number to change quickly after the reduction. There are nearly 500 views of this thread. I don't know why anyone would look at it if they're not a Derbs. saver. Therefore may be a few hundred potential withdrawers/reducers out there. The Leeds/Leek mentioned could absorb people who are saving £250/month. But £1k a month savers would need easy reliable info. where better could I put that? If you tell them go to Cahoot at 5.3%, they go there and find it's a fantastic (they're all 'a fantastic') 4.85%, less than Derbs. they'll forget it. Just tell us where we can get better than 5% for this sort of product and you may hit Derbs. like you want.Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.0 -
I'm going to hit derbyshire by taking over £30k out
And tell them when asked why the withdrawl, cos you dropped the rate from 5.85% to 5% ! and we get 5.3% on cahoot hence no reason to keep derbyshire
I think they have made a big mistake, a lot of people will be pulling out cash... 5% for a regular saver is a crap rate !0
