Car insurance - comparison websites no good!

Does anyone else find the car insurance comparison sites rubbish?
My renewal came through from Tesco more expensive than last year by £50 so wanted to look around (renewal price was £222 for reference).
The comparison sites are spewing out quotes of anything between £268-£1263!! :eek::eek:
Anyone recommend any good, cheap insurers?

£222 seems pretty cheap to start with...:DI am a Financial Adviser specialising in Mortgages, Protection, Health and Medical Insurance. I also write wills. All information posted on this site is for discussion only, and should not be taken as advice.0

£222 is good, goes up to £250 with windscreen cover and protected no claims
Considering last year it was only £170 with a free power washer I'm still hunting for a bargain!

We get along fine with comparison sites and always get a better deal than renewal through them, but if they aren't working for you my only advice is to get a yellow pages and call as many 0800 numbers as your patience and time allows.
