I am now going to try and order from my local library, can you order brand new ones does anyone know? , my library has a very poor selection as it is.
My local library is quite small but all the ones in the county are linked together. So when I see a book I want I go onto library website, search for it and put a hold on it. The library then emails me to say when it's in, and I pop by and pick it up! So simple and easy. You can order brand new books but sometimes there can be a longish wait if they are a popular book/author.

I used to pray really hard when putting my cash card in the cash machine that it wouldn't keep it.
Now I have savings.0 -
Good thread. Although I have always been quite good with money, I always think about a purchase and whether or not I am going to use it. If it is an item of clothing, I always make sure that I can wear it two or three different ways. One thing I did use to spend money on though was books for holidays. Now a week before I go, I go to my local charity shop where every book is 25p - I also then do not feel too bad about leaving them at the hotel library for other people to enjoy.Mortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0

Thanks for that, will give it a try for sure, maybe it being a library book will give me the push to read it rather then just let it gather dust.

I used to buy a lot of glossy mags - only give in occasionally now
I used to have takeaway 2-3 times a week - but only have it once a week now
I used to buy books a lot (seems to be a common vice) but only treat myself now when in an airport
I used to buy all pressies full price but now I watch for the sales and order stuff reduced online and get cashback
I used to not use vouchers and loyalty cards but now I use my Tesco and Boots cards plus any vouchers I can find!
I used to buy fizzy juice daily, now I buy it on the odd occasion
I used to put everything on a credit card, now I use switch/cash and aim to be debt free in a few monthsLight Bulb Moment - 11th Nov 2004 - Debt Free Day - 25th Mar 2011 :j0 -

I used to buy my morning tea/coffee and lunch with a credit card (I feel ashamed typing that!)...now I don't work anywhere near shops (just an onsite canteen) and take my own lunch to work and have my first cup of tea of the day at work.
I used to buy any book that took my fancy...now I have discovered the joys of the library - great selection of titles (I have not yet searched for a book they don't have!) and no precious space taken up by read books!
I used to order takeaways 2,3,4 times a week, for no apparent reason...I haven't eaten a takeaway pizza for over a year, nor would I want to! I have the occasional indian take away or chip shop supper, but it is rare, I now prefer home cooked food.
I used to think nothing of splurging on new shoes or clothes in Topshop, French Connection, Warehouse...now I have discovered charity shops (with a little help from my mum, an advocate for years!). Best thing ever - the thrill of what you may find is priceless!
And here's one I need help with:
I STILL buy far too many magazines - all the monthly glossies, and the weekly gossip rags (even though I know they are full of rubbish!). Just can't seem to break the habit :-(Now totally debt free & it feels better than anything money can buy!

A little tip for fellow magazine addicts. (I love the 'house' ones) Keep a look out under tables when car-booting. (I love car boots better than malls these days!) Boxes of magazines are often tucked away as an afterthought and real bargains can be had. I usually reckon on paying about £1 for 4 of 5 as people just want rid of them.:)
Great thread by the way.The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

I used to go to the supermarket several evenings a week and spend too much on food, clothes and household stuff, now I'm trying to avoid supermarkets altogether.
I couldn't actually tell you what it was we used to eat! Now I cook everything from scratch, bake our bread and make our yoghurt.
I used to go out every other weekend and buy a whole new outfit every time. Now I only buy things I really need.:heartpulsSpoiling my two baby girls with love - it's free and it's fun!:heartpuls
I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?
