Hiya all
I am currently 18 weeks pregnant and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge on the sure start grant.
We are in receipt of working tax credits and this is our first child.
To get sure start you have to have ctc at a higher then family element obviously we are not in receipt of ctc now,but after the baby is born are we then entiteld to the sure start grant??
Its all a bit confusing tbh, lol.
Thanks

you can apply up until bubs is 3 months old, so if you start getting ctc and it is higher than the family element on your award then yes you will be entitled.
This is the case with me.

Hi
I did apply when I was pregnant which I was getting only working people tax credit.
Decision was no
After baby born I applied again and I got it.
Because child tax credit pays higher than the family element until baby is 1 year old.
After baby born just apply for CTC and then apply for sure start but do not miss the deadline(3 months after baby born)0 -
Thanks for that,Will def try for it after baby is born.

We got no tax credits when I was pregnant as joint income was too high.
Once bubs was born and I was on maternity leave then we were awarded CTC (at higher than family element) and so applied then. Took about 1 week from sending application to receiving money into bank acc.
If you are currently getting WTC I would imagine you will get CTC at higher than the family element so why don't you get your form filled out as much as you can and then its ready to send off ASAP once bubs comes along ? I think there is a bit on the form where you can put 'awaiting CTC award' although not sure if this would hold the form up and you better waiting until CTC actually comes through IYSWIM. With your existing tax credits award it should not take long to add the child on to the award (quicker than if you have never applied for tax credits before I think!)
Have you also been told about the Health In Pregnancy Grant ?
Good luck with it all.
