Netgear DG834G
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Netgear-DG834G-54Mbps-Wireless-Firewall/dp/B0000TZ8Z8
There are cheaper around but this is good brand name and I've personally got one myself, very pleased with it, reliable, does the job well.0 -
I take it your current router is not wireless? (I've heard this about Tiscali being the only provider without wireless?) The netgear is good but hang on a mo.. can you ditch Tiscali? and join another ISP? that way they will almost certainly offer you a free wireless router?? Tiscali are seriously in debt and hopefully due to go under soon so you may be left stranded anyway...
I'm not the biggest fan of Tiscali...but hey that's not what this posts about. When a jar contains rocks, pebbles and sand is it truly full? What about beer?0 -
My current one isnt wireless and they sent me a siemens wireless one but it didnt work and im tied to them now until August.0

Netgear routers are very easy to set up though you tend to pay a premium for them. I've always been a big fan of TP Link (http://necables.co.uk/nec/index.php?target=products&product_id=29783). They are excellent value for money.0

I've got a Netgear DG834GT and it's never let me down, also Netgear have good technical backup.A problem shared is a problem multiplied.

One more thing, dont't bother installing any software if you get the DG834G, you can set it all up using the admin page at http://192.168.1.1 or something similar. Details on the router itself.0

The Netgear linked above is the router I have and have never had a problem with it, just setup and leave and in my house I currently have 3 laptops connecting wirelessly and one desktop wired. I got this free with AOL @ £14.99 pm. (not sure what they charge now as this was 2 years ago)
The performance of any router will be dependant on your house/flat, how many walls between the laptop and the router etc but having said that even on low signal I can use the internet easily. You may want to check what wireless card is in your laptop as well (hopefully wireless g or higher) and then make a decision on how much you want to pay and then ask again because if you have a wireless N card and £100 then you may want a wireless N router?Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
I have ordered the netgear from amazon.
many thanks for the advice:T0 -
Gadget show had an bench test this week of numerous routers.
D-Link, I think came out tops. Need to watch it to find out, I suppose.
