If you are looking for reasonable choice, and quick service, try Bistro 1 just off the Strand on Sounthampton Street. Three courses for £10. I went there last week and it was fine for a pre-theatre meal. I've been to Cafe In The Crypt too for their Jazz night and it was great fun and cheap night out, but get there early to ensure a table !

Thank you Lady E! Yes, Jimmy's prices are good and my mum loves Greek kitchen. The Stockpot seems to be great also.

If I am right I think that there is another Stockpt in James Street ( JUst off Oxford Circus, near Selfridges)

lots of restaurants in the covent garden and leicester square area offer pre-theatre dinners for around a tenner. good food too - you just have to eat a little earlier
Not buying clothes for a year - it's liberating!

West End Kitchen, not sure of the address but think it could be opposite the Stockpot off Trafalgar Sq. 3 courses for £6.99 last time I was there. Also Poon's chinese restaurant in Lisle St, huge portions for about £3-4 but I think they may use MSG.
