A word of caution. I bought a Tesco branded slow cooker a couple of months ago.

Filled it with nice beef, veg, stock etc. Left it going all day whilst I was at work. 10 hours later, the veg were still rock hard, the meat tough and the liquid didn't even have a hint of a hot bubble in it. I got the cooking thermometer out and tested the temperature of the liquid. It was about 65 degrees C - below the 'food safety hot holding' temperature level. I was not a happy bunny.

I ditched the food (and did egg and chips instead!) apart from a small amount which I put in a tupperware container.

I then took the cooker back to Mr T's the following weekend, along with the tupperware container for evidence and the receipt showing what I'd paid for the beef, veg etc. I was offered a replacement SC but I said no thanks - refund my money. Also, how about refunding the cost of the ingredients I had to throw away?

The CSA wasn't too keen but did phone through to the manager and, fortunately, he agreed my ingredients could be refunded as well (this, I suspect, will only work if you keep the till receipt). I then promptly walked down the road to a hardware store and bought a slightly more expensive, well known brand one and have had no problems with it at all.

This is not the first time I've had problems with Mr T's own brand electrical equipment. I should have learnt my lesson the first time.

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough.
And things go wrong no matter what I do.
Now and then it seems that life is just too much.
But you've got the love I need to see me through.

  • Thanks SS. I'll go and check it out.
Soappie, did you check the wattage on the cooker? Some are as high as 300w or more, but mine is only 130watt, it does what it says, it cooks slowly, but deliciously.

Thanks for the tip - picked up my SC today. Tesco Extra in Warrington had an end of aisle display with a stack of these slow cookers (must have been over 20) priced correctly at £9.98.
