Have just bought the bargain Tesco Slow cooker (3.3lt) but I'm really confused about the settings. The manual recommends using the High setting for most cooking (for 7-8 hours) and the low setting for re-heating food. Most recipes I've seen say cook on low for that amount of time. I was wondering; how do you use yours?0

i have bought the same c cooker from tesco too. i find the food dries out if i use the high setting for over 4 hours. i would only use this setting if you wanted the meal cooked in a short time say 3 or 4 hours. i tend to use the low setting for most of my dishes. i switch on at 7 and its ready and nicely cooked for 5 or 6 in the evening. i use the keep warm function just for that. to keep the food that is cooked, warm. needs a little bit of twisting with times but im sure if you stick to the above, most meals will turn out fine. :beer:0

I use the high for the first 2-3 hours, then set it on low for another couple of hours!
In fact, I have it on now! I will have it on high till lunchtime, then on low till teatime when I will eat some of my stew.0 -
Zeusiblue - thanks for the advice. I've just added my chicken casserole mix in there at 11am, it's on high at the moment. I think I'll reduce it to low after a couple of hours so its ready for around 6/7pm. Do you preheat yours?0

Thanks for the advice. The chicken casserole was great. The chicken was a little dry, perhaps left it to cook on HIGH for to long. I'll try using the LOW setting next time.0

i do not preheat the cooker. just shot it all in with a little water and bang it on. if cooking a gammon/ham/bacon joint i add about 50 mls water to make the gravy at the end. once ive dished up the meat and veg from the pot i add gravy granuled to the juices left and por onto meat. makes a real tasty gravy with the meat and veg juices. deeelicious

I use low (unless stated otherwise in the recipe). I think it's a pretty standard SC, but the instructions are a bit odd! Looks lovely though
