I challenge anyone to find a better laptop deal...

Basically i'm in the market for a new laptop to replace my old desktop (end of uni present!), and i will need it to perform all the usual multimedia tasks, plus capable of 3D graphics opperations, i.e. CAD, sims etc. Therefore, i think i need a laptop with a dedicated graphics card in order to equal, at least, the performance of my desktop.

The spec of my existing desktop:

Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz processor
1GB ram
180BG HD
NVIDIA GeForce 6600LE graphics card
Windows XP

I've found one laptop which i THINK will match my desktop for performance for £500, its an Acer, which from looking around seem to be the best value for money? Spec as follows:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/asp/versions.asp?rewrite=Acer_Aspire_6530G_Laptop_LX.AUS0X.142&pagetype=version&page=
Processor - AMD Turion X2 mobile processor RM-70 2.0 GHz Dual-Core
RAM - 4 GB (installed) 4 GB (max) - DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Drive - 250 GB
Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Screen - 16 in 1366 x 768
Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM / BD-ROM
Graphics - ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 - 512 MB
Bluetooth - No
Notebook Camera - Integrated - 0.3 Megapixel
Warranty - 1 year warranty

So, I challenge anyone to find a cheaper laptop of simlilar spec! So 2.0GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 250GB HD, dedicated graphics card etc

I look forward to seeing your suggestions!

Thanks

If you can tack one down this looks a bit better, esp the 3yr warranty

MEDION?! I'd want more than warrany!

    What about:

    Dell™ Vostro 1710 NB (N0517114)

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5870 (2.0 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 - English
    17" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Display with Anti-Glare Coating
    4096MB (2x2048) 667MHz DDR2 Dual Channel
    320GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive
    256 MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8600M GS (128 bit) Graphic Card
1Yr Basic Warranty - Next Business Day Onsite - No Upgrade Selected

    £573.85 - too much?

Both good efforts there, but both are quite a bit more then the Acer i've found. They are both similar to the Acer in terms of processor and graphics cards, although both have bigger HDs... however, 250GB on the Acer i feel is ample for me. One thing which stands out with the Acer from those 2 suggestion is the Blu-ray reader!! It is for this reason i think anyone will struggle to find a better deal.

Can anyone suggest a cheaper place to look other than Laptopsdirect by the way?

BD ROM is an awesome feature to have! A full on Blu-ray DVD player where ever you go, with HDMI output to connect to any TV etc.... thats pretty cool!

I see you also favour the Acers.... but from my understanding the three you mention all have inferior graphics chipsets to that of the one in my original post

A 2Ghz dual core will be quite slow compared to a 3.4Ghz single core for running windows generally speaking

Bought a £379.00 5535 with 250GB and the ATI card for my O/H daughter who's attending Uni studying Textiles, design etc This has had no probs with graphic design packages etc It seems they only have the 500GB one left.

If you want a BD ROM then I'm sorry for questioning it, I just personally feel they are a bit of a gimmick, BD R maybe but even then I would save myself the £100 extra and put it towards a "250 GB Tough Drive" or similar for storage and just watch normal dvd's. But I can be a Gadget Freak too (Would love the Ipod touch,IPhone or Nokia 5800 etc) so each to his own.

Would that stil be the case if its a 64 bit 2GHz dual core running 64 bit edition of vista? Plus an extra 3GB of RAM to add into the mix... over my original desktop
