Why is my IP address banned?

I am bemused, I have today done a search for why my Tom Tom OneXL is not allowing me full postcode address finds, and find a post on Hexus with someone witht he same problem, and it comes back my IP address is banned, I get the same reaction from AVForum. Now I may have looked at AVForum in the past, but never heard of Hexus, so why can I be banned. As an over 50 female I cannot believe I have done anything wrong on any site, can anyone suggest why? I did try to contact AVForums to resolve this, but the ban even bans the page with the contact details on.

It sounds like a range of IP addresses from your ISP have been banned due to other users (rather than yourself) and you are also in this zone. E-mail your ISP about it and the forum.

E..g they may have banned 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.255 and you currently have 10.0.0.123 (example only, these addresses are never allocated!).

You are allocated an IP address from a set range when you connect your router to the ISP (or when you dialup if you have an older connection), the IP then lasts for the duration the router is powered on, often you'll end up with the same IP address again when the router is next turned off and on with smaller ISPs, but equally as often you'll be allocated a similar but different one in the range.

Only on more specialist connections (or if you've specifically paid extra) willl you have a fixed IP address which never changes from the ISP.

Chances are you're not banned but someone with an IP address similar to yours is.

I'd be happy to contact them on your behalf, they can probably fix it.

EDIT: Isofa beat me to it!

In the meantime if you want to access these websites you're "banned" from either go to
www.squidpizza.com and put in the address of the website you want to visit OR
download Ultrasurf from http://www.ultrareach.com/download_en.htm , just click on the .exe file, (no installation req'd) and voila! you can now access any website under a false IP address.

I did find the "fix" you listed, but unfortunately it did not fix it, I have contacted Tom Tom and await their verdict.

But can someone tell me how to find out the IP of my connection?

    Thanks

Log on to your router home page for IP address.

Maybe youdid not understand isofa or it may sound a bit Irish:) Turn off your router and when you reconnect you will have a different IP.
