Best to call them and ask. How old is the carpet? If it is fairly recent then it should be possible to replace just the landing area and maybe the first drop of the stairs and make the join invisible.

It seems unlikely it is one big single piece of carpet however so most likely they will treat each piece as an individual item. You may counter that they are a matching set, but the vast majority of policies will exclude replacement of the whole set if one element is damaged.

This really depends on how good your insurer is.
Did you go for a premium brand like Hiscox who are very good or did you take the chepest one from a comaprison site?

If you took the cheapest policy you will probably get the lowest level of service.
But really you need to look at your policy and talk to your insurer.

Depending on how new the carpet is and the level of light, it may be possible to replace a part without it showing.
  • thanks for the replies so far, the carpet is at least 5 years old and the insurance is with the pru

Must admit from what you have described I want the whole lot to match.
However there are some specialist cleaners and repairers that can be used.

You haven't said what the damage is, but it's likely your insurer will send a specialist round, to first check whether it can be repaired and if not to confirm that replacement is indeed necessary.
