    Hi
On RE, I do not appear to be getting much in my area. I have found 1 pub job for June which I have accepted, as I am still on probationary status. How many jobs do I have to complete to get off this status (this will be my first one), and will I then see more jobs on RE?

I did one fortnight ago then couldnt take anything else for over a whole week as site went weird. now i am not on probation so i guess one good report means you are seen as ok :D

You won't be off probationary status until you have done your first job, so if your first one is in June, you have a bit of a wait I'm afraid.

I've not even filled in any records/spreadsheets since I started :eek::eek::eek::eek: hence me trying to get the finishing touches to my spreadsheet done ASAP.

I'm only half way there, I am still putting everything in a book, haven't looked at the spreadsheet yet - 6 months worth when I get round to it . Front room is full of papers - thought it best to work on the floor lol

Where is everyone?? I could do with some distraction, just doing the accounts that I haven't touched since mid April . Bang goes the next three hours . Any delays would be much appreciated :D

Ok I’ll accommodate and distract you by way of asking a question.

When you do your tax return do you make the cut off the date you did the job or the date you got paid?

For example if you did the job on the 1st of April 2008 but did not get paid until 25 April 2008 which tax year do you put it into?
Couldn't think of anything witty to say so just keeping the space until I can :(

    London & South

    What are the rules ?
    Does anyone know ?

I picked up 6 different brand job this week, does this preclude me from seeing others ?
    Is there a restriction ?

I assume it is best to spend to the limit on reimursement ?
I have only just gone frrom prob on RE (even though I have done work for 2 others for months)
Any top tips or idiot style things that newbies should know about RE ?

AFAIK depends on how you're doing your accounting, and so long as you're consistent from year to year it doesn't matter.

If you record your jobs when you do them, then you'd report that job in the 2007/08 tax year.

If you record your outgoings when you spend them (i.e. when you do the job) and record your incomes when you get them (i.e. when you get paid on the 25th), you'd report that in the 08/09 tax year.

Possibly - it varies. It seems many clients these days are limited to one or two jobs each, which can be frustrating. If you've got six different clients, that might well limit the jobs you're seeing now, because you may have just reached the limit for each individual client.
I assume it is best to spend to the limit on reimursement ?
With RE, yes. They will only pay you what you spend, so you might as well spend as much as you can within the limit - and working within the instructions in your brief obviously, because they won't pay you for other things if they specifically tell you to just order one particular thing.

Any top tips or idiot style things that newbies should know about RE ?
The website goes down... a lot. If you have problems, don't be afraid to call them, they're not like GAP - their staff are all always very friendly when you call, and they're usually quite accommodating. If you see a job online and the dates have passed, take it anyway and email/call them to get them to set new dates for you. If they're still online it means they still need them done.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me
    :T

RE operate quite differently to RM and I am just trying to pick up the ropes
Impressed with the amount of work they appear to have at the moment RM has gone very quiet

Don't know lol. I am only 6 months in so haven't done a tax return yet :j. I have a feeling you can do it either way as long as you are consistant, There is a fancy name for the two different ways. Someone who knows will be along before too long!

oops read the rest of the thread before replying - thanks jdan, I was on the right track!
