Google Search Hijacking Clickcheck.ru Infection

Hi,

I appear to have the same infection as the person in post 175 found in this thread.

Also the exact same infection the person describes here on bleeping computer.

However posts on bleepingcomputer from what I've observed take days (I saw where a lot of similar posts to mine never got answered at all). I saw this forum's help section was more active so I'm posting here instead.

The Problem: All my Google, MSN Live, (Doesn't seem to affect Yahoo) search results are redirecting to clickcheck.ru where it then redirects me to some unrelated page. It only seems to be affectign the first 3 results.

I've run: Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, AVG, Symantec -- They all got rid of other minor infections I had but not this one.

NOTE: I tried running combofix and it took 6 hours to complete. Is that normal?

Looks like you have tried quite a lot already, so what I would do in this situation is run your computer in a semi-safe mode by using 'msconfig' and stopping things run when your computer starts up.

You run this from the 'run' command START -> RUN then type in 'msconfig'

The two tabs you are interested in are 'General' and 'Startup'. In the general tab you can select a diagnostic startup which will load the bear minimum. You can test to see if you still have the error. If you dont then you can proceed to test, in the 'start up' tab, which process it is that is causing you the problem. If the problem continues then you have a different problem. Perhaps a funny browser plugin which you might be albe to disable or uninstall.

Let me know how you get on with that .. or if you need me to explain anything. (as i know i waffle a bit )

When ti was infected it was 102kb. Now it's 25 kb.

OK did the hijackthis fix.

Installed the CCLEANER. Which "top 2" scans do you mean? Just the internet explorer Temporary Internet Files and Cookies?

Save this as "CFScript"

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.




This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.

I uninstalled ComboFix after I ran it so I'm going to install it again and drag the file to it as you described.
