Anybody had any experience of these lot? No prices on the website :( but wondered if anyone had bought one or been in touch with them to see what their prices are like.

The Focus 1.6 TDCi Zetec looks tempting if the price is right.

As Mr J Clarkson (I think) once said "The fastest car on the road today isn't a Ferrari or a Maclaren - it's a hire car!"
Having worked for one of the big rental companies a few years ago (not Hertz), I can confirm this to be true. They get absolutely thrashed by staff & customers alike!
The price would have to be exceptionally right to tempt me to buy one!

I cant believe the way some people treat our lease cars ... after seeing that I dont think I can be tempted into buying a ex hire/lease/contract car EVER!
  • I agree, having also worked for a rental firm. Also they are often not serviced when they should be and I wouldnt trust stamped paperwork.

And if you are going to buy - make sure that you have a good look at bodywork!!

Thanks guys, I know exactly what you mean. Will give them a ring just to see what the prices are like, but I suspect they are going to be wanting over the odds for them.

My dad had a Mondeo quite a few years back through Ford Direct which was an ex-rental from Budget and it seemed OK for a few years but needed quite a bit of work once it got to about 4 years old - I just thought that perhaps was Ford reliability. :|

I can only confirm the followin (As I was a manager of a large national hire car co.)

All the cars come back thrashed (Some used to come back empty of oil after one day!!)

Some customers bought the car back after 24 hours having done up to 1000 miles in it (Yes really)

They are never ever ever serviced properly

I hired a Rover to a guy and his mate when I worked in Norwich, they went to North Scotland and realised that they forgot something so had to drive all the way back then back up and back down again!

A few years ago Hertz had a used car sales depot in Brentford. they would sell off their renatl vehicles when they were between 6 and 12 months old. You could go and inspect the cars and get an AA or similar inspection done if you wanted.

I know namy people that I use to work with who bought cars from them. Very good value then, cannot comment now. They never seemed to have any more problems than with a car sourced from anywhere else.
