A credit card to use on holiday.

We are planning a trip to Florida and would like to use a credit card whilst away instead of worrying about carrying cash,or having to withdraw amounts during our stay.
The balance on the card will be payed off in full on our return when the statement is received.
We would like to know which card would be the best for us to use in this instance, and how soon prior to the holiday should we apply for it?

    Hi there

I'd recommend that you apply for the Post Office Platinum credit card which does not charge you a percentage when you use it abroad. They will charge you to withdraw cash (as will any credit card) but not to make card payments.

I believe the Nationwide card also doesn't charge to use it abroad, but I read somewhere on here that is going to change, so the PO is probably your best bet.

To ensure you get the card sorted before you go, I'd apply for it ASAP, assuming you haven't applied for lots of cards in the last few months. It only took me two weeks or so to get the PO card.

    Hope that helps. :)
