is Screenselect Free Trial really free?

I signed up for the free trial of 30 days and cancelled at the end of that period. All dvd's had been returned well before cancellation but I was charged a months rental.
Now I thought i signed up for a free trial, but apparently the offer is, join screenselect and get the first month free! Why don't they advertise that as the offer rather than a free trial period. (yes I'm being sarcastic
)
In addition to cancelling, at no point was I told I would be charged a months subscription for cancelling. So how do they get away with it?
btw has anyone got the email and telephone number for screenselect
Thanks in advance
P.S. Savings so far -£15

Funny - I did the screenselect free trial a while back and they didn't charge me a penny when I cancelled in time. Contact them and give them what for!

You must make sure you cancel before they send you a dvd from your list and make sure that the last dvd you return gets to them (better use recorded), otherwise they will charge you again.0

A lot of people have had the same and similar problems quitting this company - have a look at the thread in Shop but Don't Drop subforum.0

I had a similar thing with the free Tesco dvd rental service.
NOTE TO ALL: YOU MUST CANCEL AND RETURN ALL DVDS ,SO THAT THEY ARE IN THE COMPANY'S POSSESSION, BEFORE THE END OF YOUR FREE PERIOD OR ELSE YOU WILL BE CHARGED.
Tesco kindly informed me this however, because their customer service wasn't exactly the best by any means, I haven't been charged (yet)
p.s. remember certain companies are owned under an umbrella company; for example, screen select and tesco are owned by the same company - this means that once you have undertaken a free trial with one of these companies, you can't then take up a new free trial with another in the same group.Thomas Jefferson: "When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on." :idea:

I remember when i did this deal - The day before i was due to be charged they "appartly" hadn't recieved my dvd's back even though i left it for 5 days. I wrote a email saying that it is very likely that they have been recieved and its very convient when i was trying to quit. It quickly changed to recieved and i quit - no penny handed over!0

I think the trick is to empty your list of dvd's just before you cancel so they cannot send you anymore after you send the last one back. Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0

When you quit screen select cancel any direct debit at your bank, they may try to invoice you then but they won't be able to take the money out directCymru Am Byth0

I had a trial a while back and sent back the last dvds from the post office where I asked for a receipt to act as proof of posting.0

I have had a free trial too, but not been charged anything. I also got proof of posting from the Post Office. However when I took out my free trial I was supposed to get a free Davina McCall workout DVD, but that hasn't arrived :rolleyes: so I'm going to write them a letter.
